At the Horseback Africa lodge, a quite tranquil carriage drive is offered to in-house guests in the late afternoons. On the carriage, you can spend time understanding the harness, how to put a horse between the shafts and then go out for the drive, perhaps with the opportunity to even take the reins.

The game reserve has a special Parktrot track which is also used by the carriage drivers. The scenery is exquisite – going through wooded lanes and past stunningly beautiful dams.

We have only 1 carriage, accommodating a maximum of 4 people.

The hikers will be led by a guide from the stables all the way up the mountain where there is a chance to see wild animals including giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impalas, and many more. The hikers will then traverse through the upper plains towards the escarpment. They will see the beautiful views from a large rock on top of the cliffs. They will then follow the path down a very steep decline towards the river and then proceed to the waterfall. At the waterfall, the guests may swim at their own risk. They will also enjoy a small picnic there. It is a stunningly beautiful hike.

Required:

• Good hiking shoes and a hat are recommended.
• A backpack to carry water and other necessities is also recommended

About the Hike:

• Total Distance: 8.5km
• Elevation gain/loss: 179 meters.
• Difficulty: boulder-hopping - no ropes necessary.

The Wildlife Education Tours is an interactive and educational tour. By teaching people about lions, servals, meerkats, snakes or any other animal within the reserve,  we are able to create a greater awareness of the importance of their conservation.

Inclusions: Welcome Coffee/Tea, free transfer to and from the Hatfield Gautrain station at specific times (early morning and late afternoon transfers- please call for actual times) for a minimum of three guests.

Children under 12 years old will not be permitted on the 'Walking with Lions' part of the tour, but they are welcome to join the rest of the tour at the standard tour price.
